Residents affected by a previous earthquake in Crete continue to face difficult living conditions, with the Association of Earthquake Victims reporting that many homes remain damaged and uninhabitable. The group says state support has been insufficient, leaving communities in a prolonged recovery. A spokesperson stated that residents are committed to staying because of their attachment to the area.
For tourists visiting affected villages in eastern or central Crete, some residential areas may still show visible structural damage. Access to certain rural settlements could be limited, and accommodation options in impacted communities may be reduced compared to pre-earthquake levels. Tourists planning to visit smaller inland villages are advised to check local conditions in advance. The situation does not affect major tourist destinations, beaches, or urban centers such as Heraklion, Chania, or Rethymno, which remain fully operational.
