Greece Invests €102M in Crete's Development & Road Safety

Monday, 22 June 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
Greece's National Development Programme (NPA) 2026-2030 will allocate 2 million euros to each municipality across Crete, with an additional 100 million euros dedicated to road safety improvements island-wide. The announcement was made by Crete Regional Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis at the opening of a working group session focused on local government development priorities. The road safety funding is particularly relevant for visitors, as Crete's mountain roads and rural routes can be challenging to navigate. Planned improvements are expected to reduce accident risks on key corridors across the island over the coming years. Tourists driving between destinations such as Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, and Lasithi may eventually benefit from upgraded signage, road surfaces, and safety infrastructure as projects funded under this programme are rolled out through 2030.
