Olivepress Art Factory

The non-profit cultural organization “Olivepress” was created in order to save the Old Oil Factory of the Agricultural Co-operative of Zymbragou from desolation and disappearance. The goal is to house cultural events in its premises, transforming it to a place of memory and a field of action in the island’s inland terrain.

The building of the Old Oil Factory is consisted of the central building nucleus constructed of stonework during the 1920s and of wings – satellites constructed during successive building stages until the 1970s. In 1980 its use as an olive mill was abandoned and was left to fall to pieces.

During the reconstruction of the Old Oil Factory, the aim was to preserve the initial materials of the building along with its authentic technological equipment with the fewest possible interventions.
