Lire l'histoire

Pervolia , Misiria and Platanias (or Platanes) are three consecutive suburbs of Rethymnon, located 3-5km west of the Rethymnon city , respectively. They were separate settlements, which have been incorporated into the urban region of Rethymnon, due to the residential development.

In front of the suburbs stretches a long sandy beach, which is an extension of vast beachfront that starts near the harbor of Rethymno and extends to the east for 13km till Skaleta beach . It is very well organized, with a plethora of choices for food, drink and accommodation.

Like in all parts of the long beachfront, loggerhead sea turtles ( Caretta caretta ) lay their eggs here. The turtles are threatened with extinction, but the Rethymno Gulf is one of the three most important places for the species in Greece, bearing annually more than 400 nests in average.

Misiria get their name after the Arabic word Misr , which is a suburb of Cairo with very fertile soil. Similarly, the region is named Misiria because of the fertile land, which still produces many vegetables.
