Lapathos Plateau

The plateau Lapathos is located about 77km southeast of Heraklion and 36km west of Ierapetra , above the village of Kato Symi . It is a small but beautiful plateau in the shade of Lassithi mountains and the piney slopes of Selakano and Simi .

The vegetation on the plateau is not dense and there are many rocky places. Lapathos is used by the shepherds of the area as a pasture.

There are several stone benches and tables, and there is the beautiful church of the Holy Apostles ( Agii Apostoli ). Plateau Lapathos can be accessed via a dirt road starting from Kato Simi to the west and from the villages Riza and Minos to the east.

From Lapathos starts one of the most rugged canyons of East Crete, the gorge of Lapathos , accessible only with technical equipment, the stream of which empties on Tertsa beach .
