Lire l'histoire

The gorge Koudoumas or Kofinas starts at an altitude of 1000m near the base of the highest peak of Asterousia Range, Kofinas, and ends on the beach of Koudoumas Monastery. It's initial part is a technical gorge of great beauty, that locals call Katarraktis (Waterfall) or Keadas (Kenad).

The overall descents in the gorge till Koudoumas monastery are 18 with the maximum reaching a height of 38m. The upper part can be only accessed with canyoning equipment and was first explored in 2004 by Kostas Psarakis and Manolis Kambourakis and bolted in 2017 by the Asterusia Adventure Team (Manos Petrakis, George Makrygiannakis, Nikos Foukakis, Savvas Paragmaian, Giannis Aggelis, Christina Aggelidou, Savvas Eftychis and Dimitris Karatarakis).

Descending the gorge is possible even without technical equipment by overcoming the part of Katarraktis from the sides. Descent in any case requires special attention because the area has very steep slopes, straining knees, the ground is very unstable and there is no marked path.

While decending, initially the vegetation consists mainly of cypress and oak trees, while as we reach the sea level pine trees appear.
