Lire l'histoire

The Venetian monastery of Jerusalem was located at village Loutraki, but now it does not operating. The monastery was a center of revolutionary activity against the Ottomans and refuge for some of the most famous chieftains of Crete.

Today the temple is preserved, parts of cells and one sanatorium built before the Second World War (but did never operate). The monastery is said to have taken its name after a monk from Jerusalem or that it was a dependency of the Holy Sepulchre .

None of these has been confirmed. The monastery was fortified, but the constant disasters completely altered its original form and no traces of walls are visible.

The church is a two-aisled basilica.
