At the cape of Souda , above the shrine of Evresis on the beach of Agia Pelagia we see some traces of the excavations carried out by the archaeologist Stylianos Alexiou . At this point he discovered the most important archaeological site of the wider area, the Prytaneum of the Hellenistic town of Apollonia (or maybe Panormos ).

The town was located at the site of the current Agia Pelagia settlement and there are several points were excavations have revealed buildings inside The city is located on the site of present-day Agia Pelagia , and there are several sites where excavations have been carried out on Cape Souda . The Prytaneion was considered the religious and political center of the community and was thus the nucleus of all governance and the official "home" of all citizens.

The building also served as a common dining room for the men of the city, as evidenced by the two existing fireplaces.
