Agios Antonios palm grove

The small palm grove of Saint Anthony is located quite close to the Monastery of St. Nikitas , in one of the most rugged areas of Asterousia Range , Crete.

It is a small oasis in the middle of nowhere, formed along a small creek watered by the springs of Kefalovrissi . In order to visit the grove from Agios Nikitas , follow the road to the east and ascend to the small white-brushed chapel of Agios Antonios (Saint Anthony) , built on an elevated position with amazing views to the South Cretan Sea.

The palm grove, consisting of the endemic species of the Cretan Date Palm , is located just below the church and is fenced to protect it by the intruders.
