Back to newsGreece's national statistics agency (ELSTAT) recorded an inflation rate of 4.4% in June 2026. The largest price increases were seen in meat products, including beef, lamb, and goat, as well as fish and seafood. Airline ticket prices also rose significantly. For tourists visiting Crete, this means dining out, especially at tavernas serving local meat dishes and fresh fish, may cost more than in previous years. Seafood meze and grilled lamb, staples of Cretan cuisine, are among the categories affected. Visitors planning to fly into or around Greece should book flights in advance to avoid higher last-minute fares. Budgeting slightly more for meals and transportation is advisable for the summer season.
