Back to newsGreece's National Tourism Organization (GNTO) recently hosted two groups of Polish travel journalists on press trips to southern Crete and Central Greece, as part of a targeted campaign to grow tourism from Poland, one of Europe's fastest-expanding outbound travel markets.
The journalists explored authentic destinations in the southern part of the island, an area known for quieter beaches, traditional villages, and landscapes less visited than the north coast. The initiative aims to generate media coverage in Poland that highlights these lesser-known areas of Crete.
For visitors, this signals growing international attention on southern Crete as a destination worth exploring. Regions such as the Messara plain, the Libyan Sea coastline, and villages inland offer an alternative to busier northern resort towns, with genuine local character and strong hospitality infrastructure already in place.
