Back to newsOn Saturday morning, a boat carrying 43 migrants arrived at the port of Kalon Limenes on the southern coast of Crete. Greek coast guard and local authorities responded to the arrival and transferred those on board to processing facilities. Kalon Limenes is a small harbor on the Messara Bay, approximately 70 kilometers south of Heraklion.
This type of maritime arrival is occasionally recorded along Crete's southern coastline, which faces the Libyan Sea. Operations are handled by authorities and have no direct impact on tourist activities, beaches, or ferry services in the area. Visitors traveling to or from Kalon Limenes or nearby Matala may notice a temporary increase in coast guard activity. Normal access to beaches and roads in the region remains unaffected.
