Back to newsGreece has expanded its national "Tourism for All" program, a subsidized travel scheme designed to make domestic tourism more accessible and to encourage travel during the shoulder and off-season periods. The initiative provides vouchers or subsidized accommodation packages to eligible Greek residents, allowing them to travel within the country at reduced costs. For Crete, this means increased visitor numbers outside the peak July-August window, particularly in spring and autumn. Hotels and accommodation providers across the island participate in the program, and some properties may have reduced availability during normally quiet periods as a result. Foreign tourists planning trips to Crete in May, June, September, or October should book accommodation in advance, as domestic demand through this program adds competition for rooms. The scheme reflects Greece's broader strategy to extend the tourism season beyond summer and distribute economic benefits more evenly throughout the year.
