Back to newsGreece's Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, visited Crete to officially inaugurate two significant cultural upgrades for visitors. The Palace of Malia, a major Minoan archaeological site located on the north coast roughly 34 km east of Heraklion, has undergone renovations and is now reopening in an upgraded state. Simultaneously, a new exhibition has opened at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, one of the most important museums in Greece and home to an unrivaled collection of Minoan artifacts.
Both sites are accessible from Heraklion and make natural companions for a single day of cultural exploration. The Palace of Malia is open to visitors and sits near the popular resort town of the same name. The Heraklion Archaeological Museum is located in the city center. Visitors interested in Minoan civilization should plan time for both following these recent improvements.
