Back to newsGreek Coast Guard vessels and Frontex patrol units conducted multiple rescue operations in the waters south of Crete overnight, recovering approximately 200 migrants from several boats. The operations took place near Kaloi Limenes, a small harbor on the southern coast of the Heraklion regional unit, and around Gavdos, the southernmost island of Greece located roughly 45 kilometers south of the Sfakia coastline.
Authorities coordinated throughout the night and into the early morning hours to locate and assist those on board the vessels.
For tourists, no disruption to ferry services or coastal access has been reported. The southern coastline and Gavdos remain open to visitors. If you are traveling by private boat in southern Cretan waters, expect increased Coast Guard activity and respond promptly to any official communications from patrol vessels.
