Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, attended the annual memorial service at the Suda Bay War Cemetery near Chania, honoring the 1,527 Allied soldiers buried there. The ceremony was organized by the British Embassy as a mark of respect for British and Commonwealth troops who fell during the Battle of Crete in May 1941. The Suda Bay War Cemetery, located approximately 6 kilometers east of Chania on the Akrotiri peninsula, is one of the most significant World War II sites in Greece and is open to visitors year-round, free of charge. The cemetery is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and offers a peaceful, sobering tribute to those who fought to defend Crete. Visitors to the Chania region are encouraged to include the cemetery in their itinerary. It is accessible by car or taxi from Chania city center.
