Back to newsTwo earthquakes occurred off the coast of Gavdos, the small Greek island located south of Crete, and were felt across the Cretan region. Gavdos lies in the Libyan Sea, roughly 65 kilometers south of the Sfakia area on Crete's southern coast. Seismic activity in this zone is common due to the area's position along the Hellenic Arc, one of Europe's most active fault systems. No significant damage or casualties have been reported. Tourists currently visiting Crete need not be alarmed, as minor tremors of this nature are a normal part of life in the region. If you feel shaking, move away from windows, stay calm, and follow guidance from local authorities. Normal travel and activities across the island are not expected to be disrupted.
