BOAK Highway: Traffic Halts 10am-3pm for Blasting Operations

Monday, 4 May 2026/CretaOne/1
The BOAK highway between Neapoli and Agios Nikolaos will experience planned traffic interruptions due to controlled blasting work. The closures are part of ongoing construction to upgrade the route into a full motorway, a major infrastructure project crossing Crete from west to east. Traffic on this section will be halted between 10:00 and 15:00 during blasting operations, with safety measures in place for drivers. Interruptions are expected to last only a few minutes at a time, but delays are possible. Tourists driving between Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos should plan extra travel time during morning and early afternoon hours. If your itinerary includes the eastern part of Crete, consider departing before 10:00 or after 15:00 to avoid disruption. Follow signage and instructions from road workers on site.
