Back to newsThe association "Technon Spouди" (Study of the Arts) is hosting a commemorative event titled "Efthiní na 'sai Kritikos" (Responsibility to Be Cretan) at the Open Municipal Theater of Arkalochori, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Kostas Mountakis, one of Crete's most celebrated lyra players. Mountakis is considered a defining figure in traditional Cretan music and a symbol of the island's cultural identity. The event combines live music performances with historical memory and archival material drawn from his life and legacy. Arkalochori is located in the Heraklion regional unit, roughly 30 kilometers south of the city of Heraklion, and is accessible by car. Visitors with an interest in Cretan folk music and culture will find this a rare opportunity to experience the island's musical heritage in an authentic local setting. Check with the municipality of Minoa Pediados for exact dates and times.
