Monday, 15 June 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
A 65-year-old woman was found unresponsive in the water at Megalochori beach on Monday morning and could not be revived despite CPR being administered on the scene. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of beach safety when swimming in Crete, particularly for older visitors or those with health conditions. Tourists are advised to swim only at supervised beaches with lifeguards on duty, avoid swimming alone, and pay attention to posted flag warnings indicating sea conditions. Megalochori is located in the Rethymno regional unit. If you witness someone in distress in the water, call the Greek emergency number 112 immediately. Local coast guard and emergency services responded to this incident.
