Back to newsCrete is actively expanding its tourism presence in the Italian market, highlighting key destinations such as Knossos and Archanes to attract more Italian visitors. Knossos, located just south of Heraklion, is one of Europe's most significant Bronze Age archaeological sites and home to the legendary Minoan palace. Archanes, a well-preserved village roughly 15 kilometers south of Heraklion, offers traditional Cretan architecture, local wineries, and easy access to the Minoan cemetery of Fourni. This increased promotion is expected to bring more Italian tourists to the island, particularly to the central and northern regions of Crete. Visitors interested in Minoan history and authentic village life will find both destinations easily reachable by car or bus from Heraklion city center.
