Four major Cretan cities are moving forward with Sustainable Urban Development strategies funded through the Crete 2021-2027 EU regional program. Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, and Agios Nikolaos are each implementing Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) plans, which were reviewed at a regional coordination meeting in Heraklion.
These plans direct EU funding toward urban regeneration, green infrastructure, mobility improvements, and public space upgrades across the island's main cities.
