Back to newsA new water borehole has been completed and activated in the municipal community of Anopoli, in the Sfakia region of southwestern Crete. The pumping station now supplies fresh water to three previously underserved villages: Anopoli, Aradena, and Livianiana.
These villages sit in a rugged inland area of the White Mountains, popular with hikers tackling the Aradena Gorge and visitors exploring the remote Sfakia coastline. Reliable water access in this area had been limited, which occasionally affected accommodation and facilities for travelers.
The new infrastructure improves conditions for residents and visitors alike, particularly during the peak summer season when water demand is highest. Tourists planning hikes or stays in the Anopoli plateau or Aradena area can now expect more consistent water availability at local guesthouses and facilities.
