Fake Interpol Officer Steals €800 from Crete Tourist

Thursday, 18 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
A scam involving someone posing as an "Interpol" police officer has been reported in Crete, resulting in the theft of 800 euros from a victim. This type of impersonation fraud, where criminals pretend to be law enforcement officers, is a known tactic used to intimidate and deceive people into handing over money or valuables. Tourists should be aware that legitimate police officers in Greece will always carry official Greek identification and will never demand cash payments on the spot. If approached by someone claiming to be an Interpol or foreign police officer, do not hand over money or documents. Instead, ask to see credentials, note the person's description, and contact the local Greek police (dial 100) or visit the nearest police station to report the incident.
