Back to newsHeraklion's Mayor Alexis Kalokaerinos visited the Makasi Arcade (Stoa Makasi) in the city center to inspect progress on a new Permanent Exhibition of National Resistance Memorabilia. The project aims to transform this historic arcade into a dedicated cultural space honoring Crete's role in the Greek resistance during World War II. The Makasi Arcade is located in central Heraklion, within walking distance of major landmarks including the Venetian Harbor and the Historical Museum of Crete. Once completed, the exhibition will offer visitors an additional free or low-cost cultural site exploring Cretan wartime history. No opening date has been officially announced yet. Tourists interested in Cretan history and the resistance legacy can already visit the Historical Museum of Crete nearby, which holds significant related collections.
