Greece Ferry Strike Halts All Services on May 1

Thursday, 30 April 2026/CretaOne/1
On Friday, May 1st (Labor Day), ferry services across Greece will be suspended due to a 24-hour strike by maritime workers. Ships will remain docked in all ports starting at 00:01, meaning no ferry crossings will operate for the entire day. If you are traveling to or from Crete by ferry on May 1st, your journey will be disrupted. This affects connections between Crete and Athens (Piraeus), as well as inter-island routes. Check with your ferry operator or travel agent to reschedule your crossing for May 2nd or later. Travelers already on the island are not at risk, but those planning to depart or arrive by sea should plan accordingly. Airports remain unaffected, so flights to and from Heraklion and Chania continue to operate normally.
