Around 550 visitors currently inside the gorge are being systematically guided out by organized rescue teams. No structural damage or injuries have been reported at this stage. Civil protection services remain on heightened alert as a precaution. The Samaria Gorge is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Crete, attracting thousands of visitors each season. Tourists with plans to hike the gorge in the coming days should check with local authorities or their accommodation before visiting, as access may remain restricted until the situation is fully assessed and the site is declared safe to reopen.
