Leer la historia
At one of the most remote spots of Crete, the peninsula of Gramvousa , operated the small monastery of Saint John the Baptist (Agios Ioannis) , which was dedicated to the decapitation of John the Baptist , celebrating on August 29. We still discern the domed monk cells or auxilliary rooms of the monastery.
It is impressive that in such a secluded and inhospitable place lived monks, but the main reason is the existence of a spring with fresh water nearby. Outside the church is planted a small plane tree that is watered with spring water.
