Leer la historia

Karavostasi beach is the westernmost of the beaches of the village Kalo Chorio at province Mirabelo , approximately 12 kilometers southeast of Agios Nikolaos and 22 kilometers north of Ierapetra . It is a relatively long beach with pebbles and sand, while the sea bottom is rocky in several places.

It is noteworthy to mention that there are many tamarisk trees that offer shade. Karavostasi is accessible by asphalt road starting from Istron .

This road ends at the point where the old warehouses, called chionas , for agricultural products, were built. At the time when there were no roads to the big cities, the products were loaded onto boats from the west of the beach.

In fact, because of this small port, it got the name karavostasi , meaning the ship dock . Today we see some ruined chionas , but also a restored one that functions as tourist accommodation.

From the point where the asphalt reaches, a dirt road starts that runs along the beach. Due to the proximity to the archeological site of Priniatikos Pyrgos and the urban planning restrictions, we mainly encounter crops.

The beach has not been developed for tourism and is generally calm compared to the rest of the beaches in the area, especially Agios Panteleimonas and Voulisma .
