Saint John at Platanakia

The church of Saint John the Forerunner is located just outside the village Stylos in Apokoronas province at position Platanakia . It is one-aisled church built in 1898 and celebrating on August 29th; a big fest takes place then.

Around the church there are many plane trees which offer shade to visitors and there are benches and tables making the place ideal for picnics. Next to the church there is one of the springs of river Kyliaris surrounded by gardens and orchards.

From the chapel you can follow the path along the river till the springs of Stylos through lush vegetation, watermills and water channels. Kyliaris is the second river in water quantity in Crete being stable all year round.
