Pirgos beach in Gavdos

Pirgos (i.e. Tower) is located on the northwestern coast of Gavdos , 6km northwest of the port of Karave .

Pirgos bay has two adjacent emerald sandy beaches, separated by some rocks, which are absolutely unorganized and isolated. Many outdoor campers prefer Pirgos for camping, as it is very far from any tourist infrastructure.

The beach is protected by steep cliffs and no natural shade from trees can be found here. You can reach Pirgos only on foot or by boat.

Walking from Ambelos village takes 2-2.5 hours, while the descending to the beach by the steep path coming from the north end of the bay needs some attention. One thing is certain: the first contact with the crystal sea of Pirgos and the wild scenery around, will remain in your mind forever.

Do not forget to carry water and food with you.
