Path to Gigilos peak

The mountains coexist with us to remind us how much we can achieve if we dare to follow the path that leads up there, where each difficulty on earth looks very small and insignificant in front of the power of our soul. All these thoughts come to mind when you dare to conquer the top of Gigilos mount in the White Mountains .

The wild Gigilos peak at an altitude of 2080m at the Mount Sapimenos dominates above Omalos plateau. From Xyloskalo (1200m altitude) we follow the steep path that from afar seems very difficult because of the flimsy grounds of the mountain, however it is generally well marked and visible.

We walk firstly on the eastern side of mount Psilafi with the Samaria Gorge below us. We meet beautiful rock formations and cypress trees hanging on the edge of the cliffs.

Many of these rocks are used for climbing. At some point we meet a natural arch, the trail runs beneath them.

After an additional hour from the arch we reach the spring Linoseli (water is potable). After a further one hour course, we follow the saddle of Gigilos having incredible views of the gorge of Tripiti and the sea.

The path continues left to the saddle, where we pass next to a precipice (attention!). In about 50 minutes we reach the first peak of Gigilos and after 15 more minutes on the peak of the 2080m.
