Διαβάστε την ιστορία

On the road that connects village Vori with the palace of Phaestus and next to the banks of river Geropotamos , we meet the ruined watermill of the area that locals call Gerontomylos (old mill). It is said that the area around the mill was a favorite place for the Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis , who was often hosted by the Stephanides family in Vori.

The mill dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries and is one of the most imposing in Crete. It consists of the mill area, the house of the millers, while at the top there was a beautiful pigeon house.

What is striking is that it had two ducts to drop the water from Geropotamos on two impellers, doubling the amount of grain or olive that could be ground.
