Vatalos beaches

Vatalos is located 80km southeast of Chania , 1.5km west of the famous beach of Fragokastelo beach . Most of Fragokastelo hotels and rooms to let are located in the area of Vatalos, which is a flat area with fertile fileds and amazing views to the south slopes of the White Mountains .

In winter the area turns to a very important wetland , starting from the castle and extending to the west for about 2km. There are several coves at Vatalos with peaceful sandy beaches, with pebbles and rocks in places.

Starting from the fortress , you meet the beaches of Iligas , Hodros Volakas , Mavro Nero and, last, Vatalos . Most visitors stay in the area, but prefer to go for swinning in the shallow and busy sandy Fragokastelo beach .

However, Vatalos beaches are ideal for snorkeling and quiet holidays. The Fragokastelo area is renowned for its medieval castle , the exotic beach and the legendary ghosts of Drosoulites .
