Church of the Zoodohos Pigi at Drakonero

The church of Zoodochos Pigi (Life Giving Spring) in the location of Drakonero of the village Prinos , province Mylopotamos, functioned as a monastery from the first half of the 16th century, the ruins of which can be seen around. The church is particularly important for its architecture, which combines post-Gothic and manieristic elements with typical Orthodox, its sculpture and its very important frescoes.

It is considered the largest cruciform church with a dome of its time in Crete. Inside the temple there is one of the most beautiful arcosolia of the 16th century (Venetian burial monument) with the coat of arms of the Tzagarolo , which depicts the Exile of Adam and Eve from Eden .

The interior of the temple to the west is adjacent to a cave. A part of the frescoes is also preserved ( Peter and Paul Kiss of Peace , Panagia in Throne , monks, saints, etc.), which show that the artist follows the trends of the Cretan School of Hagiography with some western influences.
