The bronze bust of Nikos Xylouris, one of Crete's most celebrated folk musicians and a beloved cultural symbol of the island, has been restored to its base in Cyprus Square (Plateia Kyprou) in the Oasis neighborhood of Heraklion. The bust was returned on the morning of Wednesday, June 24, following an act of vandalism that occurred in the early hours of April 21. Xylouris, known affectionately as "Psaronikos," was a legendary Cretan lyra player and singer whose music remains deeply woven into the island's identity. His bust is a recognized landmark and a point of local pride. Visitors to Heraklion can now once again see the monument in its rightful place.
