Saint George monastery at Finokalis

The church of Saint George (Agios Georgios) at Finokalis is located above the beach Lichnistis , to the west of Agia Galini . It was the main temple of a small nunnery founded in the 14th century, which seized its operation in the 1980s.

It is impressive to see the inclination of the temple walls, which would have collapsed if not reinforced externally by buttresses. The church bears valuable frescoes of the 14th century.

Apart from the temple, on the site there are the ruined nuns’s cells. The nice courtyard hosts a feast on April 23, the feast day of Saint George .
