Karantale Gorge

Karantale Gorge is located in the center of Rethymno Prefecture and gets its name after the abandoned village of Karantale , which is located close to its entrance. The vegetation is spectacular and the canyon is a very good option for a daily excursion.

The canyon, also spelled as Karantaliotiko , starts near the village of Agios Ioannis , where a beautiful cypress wood, and ends at Saitoures village. Its length is about 3km and walking in it is very easy.

The stream continues its course till it meets the main stream of Petres river .
