Trail Agios Georgios - Agia Pelagia - Katharo

From the village Agios Georgios in Lassithi Plateau , the E4 European trail forks into two parts to ascend to Katharo plateau , either through the gorge of Havgas or via the trail of Agia Pelagia church . This part refers to the second route which offers nice views to the the Lassithi Plateau while ascending.

We start our course from Agios Georgios village, where we could visit the museums of Agios Georgios . We head to the east, towards the two large artificial openair tanks.

We reach the chapel of Agia Pelagia , which housed a small monastery during the Venetian Era. From there we start ascending to Timios Stavros chapel (Holy Cross) having nice views to the plateau of Lassithi and the two tanks.

We reach the Katharo Plateau, where we can make a stop and enjoy our food or coffee in the small taverns at settlement Avdeliakos . This route can be combined with the parallel E4 part Agios Georgios - Havgas - Katharo and be circular.
