Cave Kouroupidon

The impressive Cave Kouroupidon is located in the area of the village Kokkino Chorio of province Apokoronas, near the beach of Koutalis ; the area hosts dozens of great caves. Detecting the entrance is difficult because it is very narrow and is not discernible.

In order to enter, someone has to crawl in the first narrow points. Later, the cave opens and the rich decoration with stalactites, stalagmites and columns impresses the visitor.

Inside, there are two dangerous descents (wells) about ten meters deep with water at the bottom. Apart from its magnificent beauty, the cave also has an important history as it is connected, like others in the area, with the rebels (guerilas) who were hiding here during the German Occupation of Crete and the Greek Civil War.
