Persistent cloud and rain will cover the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) and Psiloritis throughout the day. Trails will be wet and slippery, with poor visibility above 1,000 m. Postpone any high-altitude hiking routes planned for today.
Sea, Wind, and UV
Sea temperatures sit at a consistent 20°C along the north coast, reaching 20.7°C at Ierapetra. Wave heights are low island-wide, mostly 0.4 to 0.5 m, with Malia recording the highest at 0.72 m. Winds are light to moderate across all areas. UV indices range from 5.7 to 7.6, with Rethymno registering the peak despite heavy cloud cover. Apply sunscreen regardless of sky conditions.
Swim Verdict
Avoid the sea in all areas reporting active thunderstorms: Sitia, Makrigialos, Ag. Nikolaos, Elounda, Hersonissos, and Malia are off the table today. Ierapetra is the one realistic option if showers ease during the afternoon. Chania and Rethymno beaches are accessible between shower bands, though the water at 20°C will require acclimatisation.
