Back to newsA study by INSETE, the research institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation, examined spending and length-of-stay data across the six highest-revenue tourism markets for Greece. Crete ranks among the top destinations drawing visitors from these key markets, which include major Western European countries. Foreign tourists visiting Crete tend to stay longer than the national average, with average stays ranging from one to two weeks depending on origin country. Spending patterns show that visitors from Northern Europe and the UK allocate significant daily budgets toward accommodation and dining. For tourists planning a trip to Crete, the data suggests that the island remains competitive in value compared to other Mediterranean destinations, with peak season concentrated in July and August. Booking accommodation in advance is recommended, as occupancy rates in top-performing markets reach capacity during summer months.
