Extreme Heat Wave Set to Scorch Crete Through August

Saturday, 20 June 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
Weather forecast models are pointing to a long, hot summer across Crete, with high temperatures and very little rainfall expected through July and August. An African anticyclone combined with unusually warm sea temperatures is driving the conditions, creating a sustained period of dry, intense heat. Visitors should plan accordingly: carry water at all times, avoid outdoor activities between 12:00 and 17:00, and apply high-SPF sunscreen, especially at exposed archaeological sites and beaches with no shade. Lightweight, light-colored clothing is strongly recommended. The warm sea temperatures make swimming conditions pleasant, but heat exhaustion is a real risk for those unaccustomed to Mediterranean summers. Book accommodation with air conditioning if possible, and check local forecasts daily as temperatures may spike during peak heatwave episodes.
