FRONTEX Rescues 83 Migrants Off Crete Coast

Wednesday, 24 June 2026/SourceNaftemporiki/1 min read
A FRONTEX vessel rescued 83 migrants from two small boats in the sea south of Kalos Limenas, a coastal village on the southern shore of Crete. The operation was coordinated by the Hellenic Coast Guard. Kalos Limenas, also known as Kaloi Limenes, is a quiet area on the Libyan Sea coast, located roughly 70 kilometers south of Heraklion near the Messara Plain. This type of maritime rescue is part of ongoing border management activity in the southern Aegean and Libyan Sea. For tourists, there is no direct impact on travel or safety at Cretan beaches and resorts. The southern coast remains accessible and safe to visit. If you are boating or sailing in southern Cretan waters, be aware that Coast Guard and FRONTEX vessels operate in the area and may be conducting maritime operations.
