Crete issues severe weather alert as storm system approaches island

Friday, 12 June 2026/SourceHaniotika Nea/1 min read
Crete's Risk Assessment Committee has convened to address expected deteriorating weather conditions forecast through tomorrow. Civil Protection authorities have issued recommendations for residents and visitors ahead of the incoming weather system. Tourists currently on the island or planning to arrive should monitor local weather updates closely, avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours, and follow guidance from accommodation providers and local authorities. Outdoor activities, coastal excursions, and hiking should be postponed until conditions improve. If driving, exercise caution on mountain roads and coastal routes, which can become hazardous in strong winds or heavy rain. Check with ferry and local transport operators for potential schedule disruptions. Updates are available through the Greek Civil Protection authority at civilprotection.gr.
