Anti-military protests are planned in Chania on Saturday 15 May and Sunday 17 May, organized in opposition to the Souda Bay NATO base. On Saturday, a public gathering will take place at the Peace and Friendship Park (Parko Eirinis kai Filias) in the city center. On Sunday, participants will march toward the Souda base, located approximately 7 km east of Chania along the coastal road.
Tourists visiting Chania that weekend should be aware that road access near the Souda area and parts of the city center may be temporarily disrupted, particularly on Sunday. The port of Souda, which handles ferry connections and cruise arrivals, is adjacent to the base, so travelers with ferry schedules should allow extra time and monitor local transport updates. The events are expected to be peaceful demonstrations.
