A light magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck the Eastern Mediterranean on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 7:32 pm Athens time. The epicenter was located 41 km southeast of Ierapetra, a coastal town on the southern shore of Lasithi, eastern Crete. At this magnitude, the tremor was unlikely to cause structural damage and would have been felt only mildly, if at all, in populated areas. Ierapetra and the surrounding eastern Crete region remain safe for visitors. No damage or injuries have been reported.
