Crete Celebrates Restored Minoan Palace and New Museum Exhibition

Sunday, 24 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Greece's Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, is traveling to Crete for two cultural inauguration ceremonies. The first marks the completion of a major restoration project at the Minoan Palace of Malia, located on the north coast between Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos. The palace, dating back over 3,500 years, is one of the four great Minoan palatial complexes on the island. The second event is the opening of a new large-scale temporary exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, considered one of the most important museums of ancient Greek art in the world. Both events signal renewed access and investment in Crete's Minoan heritage. Tourists visiting the island this season can expect fresh exhibits and recently restored sections at Malia open for exploration. Exact dates were not confirmed in the original report.
