Smoking Passengers Attack Police in Crete, One Officer Injured

Wednesday, 24 June 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
A serious incident occurred on a flight from Warsaw, Poland, to Chania airport in western Crete. Passengers were caught smoking on board during the flight, and when police intervened upon landing, officers were physically assaulted. One police officer was injured in the hand and required hospital treatment as a result of the altercation. The passengers involved were detained by Greek authorities at Chania International Airport (Ioannis Daskalogiannis). The incident caused disruption at the airport, though normal operations were not reported as significantly delayed. Tourists traveling to Crete should be aware that Greek aviation law strictly prohibits smoking on all flights, and assaulting law enforcement carries serious criminal penalties under Greek law. Passengers who witness disruptive behavior on flights are advised to alert crew members immediately rather than intervening directly.
