About the Performance
This theatrical narrative spans a century of Cretan history through the testimonies and lived experiences of three distinct generations. Beginning with Penelope Spiridaki, who inhabited the rural areas of Chania in the late 19th century and devoted her life to raising eleven children through the challenging years of German occupation and post-war Greece, the performance traces through Heraklion-born Irini Tsikritzi Albantaki's handwritten memories dedicated to her mother, and concludes in the present day with two young children reading fairy tales and dreaming of a better future. With brevity, authenticity, humor, and freshness, the performance illuminates humanity's enduring struggle for dignified survival and resurrects a century of local history.
